Our minister is Daniel Thomas Seay, who has been with us since June of 2004. Daniel is a studied and experienced minister for the Lord whom you will find to be Biblically sound. He conducted his undergraduate work at and received his degrees from: Lubbock Christian University, Lamar University, and the University of Houston. His graduate study and degree is from Pepperdine University. He is married to Janice Seay and has 6 (six) children and 13 grandchildren. He has presented Biblical and Personal and Business Development messages in numerous locations around the US and in several foreign countries, including locations in Central America, Eastern and Western Europe, including extended time in Greece and Bulgaria. He is beginning his 2nd decade of work with the church in Independence, KS. You will appreciate his laid-back style and loving approach in each of his lesson presentations. Mostly, though, you will learn that God uses Daniel to powerfully and persuasively speak His Truth.
The Independence Church of Christ is involved in a variety of ministries. As a congregation of God's People, they have made it their goal to reach everyone throughout Montgomery County Kansas with an invitation to be involved in their Read The Bible In A Year campaign. An attractive brochure with an easily followed Daily Bible Reading schedule and checklist has been prepared and a structured program of reaching each home in Montgomery County has been implemented. This effort is currently ongoing and great results are expected as people come to know their God better.
The Independence Church of Christ is also the organizer of the Annual PRAY FOR OUR NATION Day, held on July 4th each year. This is a non-denominational effort held in conjunction with churches throughout Montgomery County. Initially hosted by the Independence Church of Christ at their building at 401 S. 11th @ Walnut in Independence Kansas, it is now set up to be hosted by other fellowships who have shown an interest in Praying for our Nation. This past July 4th, this area-wide Prayer Event was hosted by the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro Kansas, about 15 miles outside of Independence, conveniently located triangularly between Independence, Coffeyville and Caney Kansas.
The Independence Church of Christ is also involved in helping hurting and struggling families throughout the area. In July of 2007 Montgomery County experienced an epic flood which destroyed homes, businesses and roadways. The Independence Church of Christ became the host site for the Churches of Christ Relief Network and worked closely with City, State and National Relief Programs to bring assistance to affected citizens in the area. The Independence Church Building was open and manned by church members around the clock for a lengthy period of time to accommodate the schedules and needs of hundreds of displaced families.
In addition, a number of members of the Independence Church of Christ make it their mission to visit in the local jail to study with, and encourage, those whose lives have taken a wrong turn. Frequently providing Bibles and Christian literature for Free, they help in every way possible to make sure those seeking the Lord have a way of finding Him.
The Independence Church of Christ is widely known as a Praying group of Christians. Their prayers are answered by God in powerful ways. So well known is it that their prayers are answered that people from Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and, of course, throughout Kansas, seek to have their loved ones placed on the Independence Church of Christ Prayer List. Most of these are not affiliated with churches of Christ in any way. We are honored to have the opportunity to pray for these people who are seeking an answer from God.
If you have a need - of any kind - that the Independence Church of Christ can assist with, please let the church know. Contact us via phone or email or personal visit. We look forward to hearing from you.
